Making KLIMT More Curious...

It would really have helped those of you so turned off by Klimt, the surrealistic (by way of syphilis!) new bio-pic on the life of Gustav Klimt, had we had a pre-trip seminar on 20th century European Art as well as a history class on fin-de-siecle Vienna and aesthetics.

A decent piece on the film appears here, with another decent take here. California's 'Bible' of movies, Variety, is somewhat merciful, surprisingly enough.

Background material on the young artist mentored by Klimt, Egon Schiele, appears here in a nice piece by Arthur C. Danto. An archive of his somewhat-influenced-by-Klimt stylistics is here.
