Fugitive Pieces

Fugitive Pieces is a powerful, emotion-filled drama that takes you in the mind of a young boy named Jakob as he struggles to overcome the tragedy of losing his entire family to the Nazis. The first scene will pull you in to Jakob’s horrific reality with the violent murder of his Mother and Father. To witness one’s own parents be brutally killed at such a young age has to be the most frightening and devastating experience for a child. How one could continue on after that is a mystery to me. What astonished me are the incredible acting skills of the young actor who played Jakob in the film. The young actors name is Robbie Kay and he surely stole the hearts of the audience when he was found, almost dead in the forest underneath a pile of leaves. It was heartbreaking to watch him as he clung to life in Athos’ arms. Looking into his eyes, one could see all the pain and sadness he was feeling. It’s hard to imagine many adults who could understand the pain someone like Jakob was experiencing, so to see such a young boy playing the role so powerfully was incredibly touching. Watching the horrendous treatment of the Jews puts life in a different perspective. One where life is so precious and should not be taken for granted. I feel so grateful for the life I live and thankful that I have not had to experience anything nearly as difficult as Jakob or his family had to endure in the film.
